Kentucky Artisan Distillery is a very unique place in the distillery world. KAD is a contract distiller and bottler and currently serves as the home for Jefferson’s Reserve Bourbon. Serving as the home for Jefferson’s Bourbon means that a large amount of the brand’s distilling, bottling, and aging happens onsite. Kentucky Artisan Distillery is one of the few distilleries that produce bourbon and spirits literally from the roots to the bottle, all by hand. We contract to grow our grains on 700 acres neighboring our distillery at Waldeck Farm. Our distillery is completely run by our distillers, not a computer. And every bottle that goes down our bottling line is touched by several sets of hands.

Bourbon Whiskey is a distinctly American product that has been produced in this country since the eighteenth century. Bourbon can be made in any U.S. state but the vast majority of it hails from Kentucky and can claim to be world-renowned Kentucky Bourbon. The site of the Green River Distillery has housed distilleries for nearly 130 years. The original Green River Distillery, built-in 1885, was the first in Owensboro and a major producer of Kentucky Bourbon for over 30 years. In 1918 the entire distillery burned to the ground. It was rebuilt in 1936 after prohibition, and most of the buildings on our grounds today date back to the late 1930s. In 1940 it was purchased by the Medley family and continued to produce significant quantities of Bourbon as the Charles Medley Distillers Kentucky until 1993. Here is a random sampling of just some of the bourbon brands that have been made on the site of our distillery. David Meier, the owner of Glenns Creek Distilling, has always had a love for where things are made, how they are made, and the level of craftsmanship that went into their making. This love of creation was one of the driving forces behind his career in manufacturing and yearning to create something of his own. He happened upon the Old Crow Distillery. Seeing the exorbitant level of craftsmanship that went into the old buildings and seeing the state that they were in after being abandoned for 30 years brought up a mix of sadness for the current state and intrigue for what it must have been like in its prime. David started to research the history of The Old Crow Distillery to get a better feel of what role the old distillery played in the bourbon industry and Kentucky. He recreated a new bourbon produced in the style of Dr. Crow; something that Dr. Crow would drink and approve of. Boundary Oak Distillery is nestled in the knobs of central Kentucky. With its beautiful woods, waterfall, and natural limestone spring the land was clearly meant to be home to one of Kentucky’s great bourbon distilleries. However, because of prohibition bourbon enthusiasts have been robbed of this asset for nearly a century. In fact, the land has most recently been known as a manufacturing plant that closed in 2009. Fortunate for us, Master Distiller Brent Goodin had a vision for something more. You see, the Goodin Family has been a part of Kentucky for over 200 years. Brent’s ancestor Samuel Goodin established Goodin Fort at the site of old Boston, which ultimately became Bardstown, the Bourbon Capital of the World ™. Add to this Brent’s grandmother and uncle’s years of hard work in the bourbon industry and it’s no wonder how Brent could see a distillery on this land. After months of research, paperwork, preparation, and an investment of nearly 1 million dollars, Boundary Oak Distillery received its licensure. Based in Rapid City, SD, owner Jerry Sailer, of Rapid City, has turned a seven-generation, Sailer family recipe into reality by producing flavored liqueur in South Dakota. Jerry Sailer was educated in the art of “making alcohol” by his father when he was 15 years old. Jerry’s father also learned the art of “making alcohol” when he was 15. In fact, the five previous father and son relationships of the family shared the same bond. Making alcohol has been in our blood for a long time. Angel’s Envy is a hand-crafted, small-batch whiskey produced by Louisville Distilling Company, a subsidiary of Bacardi Limited. WHEN LINCOLN CAME OUT OF RETIREMENT TO CREATE ANGEL’S ENVY it was to collaborate with his son, Wes, on a bourbon finished in Port barrels. He’d had the idea for years, but had never had the chance to explore it previously. It was just as important to Lincoln to be creating a new type of whiskey as it was to be building something with his family. Wes’s son Kyle eventually joined his family to help with the fledgling brand, and to learn side by side with his grandfather. ROOTED in 200 YEARS of bourbon heritage, we create hand-finished spirits that aren’t afraid to improve on the classic tradition. Inspired by legendary Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson’s lifetime spent crafting fine spirits, Angel’s Envy is our masterpiece. The 5% of spirit lost each year during barrel aging is called the “Angel’s Share.” After tasting our finished whiskey, Lincoln joked that we’d finally gotten a better deal than the angels. And so Angel’s Envy was born.
Inspired by our city’s rich distilling history, Chattanooga Whiskey was founded in 2011 with a mission to bring back “Whiskey to the People.” Following the success of our community-powered Vote Whiskey campaign, we eventually became the first distillery in Chattanooga in over a century. In 2015, we began the patient process of crafting our malt-forward style of straight bourbon whiskey we call Tennessee High Malt. After 8 years in the making, our Tennessee High Malt was released in August 2019, marking a new era in our company history with a whiskey that celebrates the future as much as the history that got us here today. Opened in March 2015 and located in the heart of downtown Chattanooga, our Experimental Distillery is the first distillery to craft whiskey in Chattanooga in over 100 years. With over 100 different barrels maturing in the aging cellar, every visit to the Experimental Distillery is an exploration of the past, present and future of hand-crafted bourbon.
